The adjective "wild" denotes Wanda's love for her favorite habitat, the Pennsylvania Wilds. North Central Pennsylvania, richly described as the Pennsylvania Wilds, sports wilderness trails for hiking and backpacking that rival any of the world's finest for beauty, solitude, challenge, and relaxation.
While well-know footpaths such as the Appalachian Trail have become virtual superhighways of back-packing travelers, in the vast Pennsylvania Wilds the hiker may go for days without seeing another person. A day when I see more wild bear and deer than people is one of my favorite days in any year!
One S-10 contestant who saw me in Los Angeles during the ten days of interviews and testing last September, when we could see other contestants but were never allowed to speak a word, described me in her journal as appearing "outdoorsy but not athletic" -- a very astute and on-the-mark observation, in my opinion.
